Ummm... Italian ice cream. It makes a satisfying sandwich. My notes Sicily, June 2005. It's hot. Damn hot. So hot even the locals are moaning about the heat. What's a tourist from colder climes to do, but seek respite at the ice cream seller? We were boarding for a week in Cefalù, with Simone attending Italian class and myself taking 1-1 German lessons each morning. By lunchtime temperatures were passing "warm" into "uncomfortable", and by early afternoon had reached "unplesant"—where they stayed until sometime in the early hours of the next morning. So this photo was definitely a "quick, before it melts..." moment, taken to record our incredulity at the whole concept of eating ice cream out of a bread role. It makes perfect sense, given that the soft bread (brioche) readily absorbs the gelato melt.
