The post title says it all. I needed to change the header so that all posts in my WordPress blog falling under a certain category have a unique look. I'm new to PHP but prone to experiment, so jumped right in and found I could achieve this aim with just one line of code.

I recently spent an extortionate amount of time adding a site preferences panel to my site design. It's a solution composed of many parts, put together piece-by-piece with the knowledge and assistance of several Netizens. It is by no means perfect and certainly not indispensable—but it sure put my tinkering skills to the test. It surprises me how obscure information about adding site preferences is; Google searches on the subject have a high signal-to-noise ratio, and a couple of e-mail enquires to webmasters went unanswered. In keeping with my blog's tagline, here is the "stuff worth sharing". But mostly, as usual, I document the process mainly so I can remember how it was put together!

Custom CSS signatures in Mail: The default interface for Mail signatures allows you to do rich text signatures using the fonts and colors palette. You can even drag an image into the compose signature window and it will be included in every email as an attachment... here's an easy guide on how to do CSS signatures referencing images on an outside server and not as an attachment.
In various places around the net you may have seen alert boxes which, as far as I can tell, owe their origins to the K2 template for WordPress. The CSS behind this (at least in the beta 167 version I based my design on) doesn't pass the W3C's CSS Validator.
