Last night the TV news showed pictures of a Red Cross team in Lebanon that had come under Israeli fire. This morning the BBC News reports that UN observers have been killed in an air strike targeting their observation post. More examples of how Israel is exercising "restraint" in this conflict.

I'm overdue for a rant, damn it—I've got intermittent explosive disorder (IED) don't you know? Oh, and while we're on the subject of your knowledge, you do realize it's your fault, doctor, that since you won't give me codeine I have to steal to do drugs? I know I smoke doc, but what are you going to do about my chest? But I don't eat too much. I hit her because I was having some sort of seizure—can you give me something for it? Well, it's like this: I can't afford to keep my house tidy. I've had a bad day; can I have Prozac? Familiar?

All wars by their nature likely involve illegal invasion and the abuse and torture of prisoners, modern wars being no exception. One would hope that although people can't respect each other, they could at least avoid the wanton destruction of historic sites so far as humanly possible. On 1st November 2005 Nikon announced that some lot numbers of the EN-EL3 battery (as used in my D70) "may become defective, resulting in overheating during recharging". They went on to explain:

The EN-EL3a and the EN-EL3e may be freely substituted for the EN-EL3 in all cases. Please note that in the case of high demand, returns may take longer.
Note that last word; it turns out to be the most important bit...

Skywards is the frequent flyer program for Emirates and SriLankan. We have flown with Emirates to Australia and to New Zealand; their business class service is simply superb. Fly out business and the air miles you earn make for an affordable upgrade on the home leg. The wonderful lounge in Dubai, the chauffeur service, and priority check-in for Silver members flying economy are further inducements. In May 2005 we stayed at the Hilton in Blackpool, a partner hotel, hoping to put the air miles we would earn towards an upgrade on our next long-haul trip. Unfortunately, some 3.5 months later, getting these miles credited to my Skywards account has proven impossible—blemishing an otherwise excellent impression of Emirates. My advice? Leave your Skywards card at home: it's not worth the effort.

Oh dear—another rant. For the first time in the history of this blog I'm posting via a dial-up modem connection. Why? Because I thought I would get better value-for-money by changing my ISP to UK Online.
