Support the Open Share Icon Project

A backlash in the face of threats from ShareThis.com/ Nextumi Inc., owners of the trademarked Share Icon originally promoted as "generic", has prompted creation of the Open Share Icon Project—a free, open, community-driven alternative. The Share Icon has become synonymous with the commercial ShareThis brand & widget (registration terms) & even the "Classic" plugin requires publishers to actively opt-out of "sharing" their data to the ShareThis service. The working design of the new open icon features cupped hands passing/ receiving an item ("pass it on") as well as an eye reference ("look at this").

We just need the Shareaholic extension to swap icon now ;)

I'm sure Jay will, perhaps once there has been a bit more community input and the design is final. I wish him luck with the Project; I certainly like the dual-concept icon and think an unrestricted/ non-branded alternative is a great idea. I hope it does well.

@Bruce, @David - You can count on that. Thank you for all the support!

Nice share Icon... I'm glad someone is doing something about this... i mean, the sharethis thing is out of control... not to mention, they violate their own terms of use in their own logo?!?!?!! how can so many people be falling for that crap?

Anyway.. this is a great logo, i like it better than the other one anyway... it "says" share, the other one doesn't... great job, you have my support.

Nice to hear the Project has your support too Matt, but just to be clear—this isn't my baby, it's Jay's. The real action is on the Open Share Icon Project website.
