Perhaps the new plug-in capabilities would permit it David (at the cost of weight), but it's not built in. However, if you were already using jQuery (for example) you could show a hidden div overlay containing a slide show (e.g. here or here) with little code overhead.

I must have a look, but I like Lightbox Slideshow because it does slideshows ;) as well.

If you take out the plugins/YouTube, you save most of the weight added. While still having the benefits of less issues and skinning support.
