The webcam has been around since 1991, finding gainful employment in a variety of tasks from video-conferencing to traffic monitoring. Many webcams with a "monitoring" function don't stream live video, but instead upload a static image to a web page that changes after a set period (seconds or minutes). So if you're curious to see what the weather's like in Wellington, how busy the roads are, or what the crowds are like in Courtenay Place on a Friday night, here's your chance.
- Wellington Harbour (overlooking Petone, towards Mt Victoria);
- WatchNET Webcams (traffic monitoring, including Courtenay Place);
- Wellington Harbourcam (sea conditions around the harbour mouth);
- Wellington Views North Cam (overlooking CBD towards Hutt Valley).
Likewise, we can keep an eye on our European haunts in the Peak District and Frankfurt.

Thanks, I recognize some of the spots overthere!
Here's a webcam in my hometown: Groningen, the Netherlands.

So what's your story BOK? Have you lived in Wellington for a time, or did you visit on holiday?
Hi Bruce,
We (only) did a 28-day trip driving a Maui-camper in November 2004. We stayed on a campsite in Lower Hut to visit Wellington half way during that trip. We spent most of our time however in Te Papa. I also remember the huge plate with meat we had for dinner that day at The Blue Parrot. :-)
Besides your very good looking weblog, that's also why I love to read your stuff from Aotearoa and see your photographs (got a D70 too). Keep up the good work! Cheers, Henk (aka BOK)
Good to have you as a reader Henk! I visited Te Papa previously and was impressed; we haven't been back since we arrived in Wellington, so will have to change that. Not come across The Blue Parrot however.
