So hot these trees look scorched (the bark is nearly black) and dead, but they apparently are in a dormant state with an extensive root system as an adaptation to the hot and dry climate. A great lanscape to witness, although I do recall feeling a little nervous about having walked out so far from the campsite&#8212;in case I stepped on something that bit back (snake, lion,...).</description>
