An iCal user since the beginning, I never knew you could attach any file to an event and open it by clicking on the url field. Ideal for those larger memos, or for integrating the list-making ability of Word or diagramming tools of OmniGraffle.

Having been a fairly recent Switcher (about 4 years now in Appleville), I'm very accustomed to MS software. And I have to say that Outlook has its strengths and weaknesses, as does iCal/Mail. I think this gives me the unique position not to fall prey to the cult of either computing platform.
In my opinion, if I could combine the best of both worlds, you'd have a perfect PIM.

I use Outlook on my PC and used to use Entourage (part of Office for Mac) before settling on Mail. I agree MS software has some good features and I guess features are what sell products in a business environment. I prefer the simplicity and elegance of Mail and iCal. It's not a question of form over function: I guess Apple are more concerned with a limited feature set to satisfy most users, and concentrate on doing that well. People I know who are less technically adept can get the things they need doing done in Apple apps with less misery than they can in MS equivalents.
Maybe the key to meeting specific user requirements is to use plugins and/or scripts, and there are plenty of those. For example, I recently started using MailTags. It does a nice job of integrating iCal and Mail in a very Apple-esqe way.
