Now I am able to see NEF's everiwhere...
Everithing is fine now.
Thanks a lot for your help and your commitment!
Receive best wishes all the way down from Mexico.
Best,

Hi Rodrigo,

That is a bit strange that you can see the thumbnails in Tiger but no Leopard! The D700 is a new camera, so new it's not on Apple's list of supported raw formats. My understanding is that the Nikon raw format NEF is not exactly the same for each camera model, so system-level support is not automatically guaranteed. I expect Apple will release a raw support update in due course, as they have done previously.

Actually, I just Googled and found this discussion, which suggests they have released an update TODAY—and sure enough it's in my Software Update. So install that and you should be good :-)

Hey Bruce, I think I need some help. I just got a Nikon d700 and I shot a lot of NEF files, downloaded them into a MacBook, Leopard 10.5.4, but unfortunately I am not able to see the NEF thumbnails in the folder I created. I just see white icons. Of course I set up the d700 to shoot jpg+NEF, which helps me to see the jpg thumbnails, but I actually need to see the NEF's.
Oddly enough is to find out that I can actually see the NEF thumbnails on a Tiger 10.4.11. Unfortunately it is an iMac, not portable... and I have to travel a lot shooting...
Do you have any Idea?
I would appreciate your help a lotttt.
Thank you

Richard, it's true the 5700 is not on the listof supported cameras for Aperture, nor was in added in Apple's recently released raw support update (supplementing this list for iPhoto 6). A better choice may have been Nikon Capture, which does support the 5700 (or Photoshop CS). Hopefully you can find other benefits from upgrading your Mac ;-)

I can not get my mac iPhoto program or Aperture 1.5 to read the NEF files from my Nikon 5700. Very dissappointed as that was the whole reason I upgraded my Mac and bought Aperture. DOH!

i have the D70s and none of this applies either, including the .NEF from the D2X. Its Encrypted!

Like the D50, the encryption has been updated/changed and Finder nor Preview both do NOT support this new .NEF...

Older D70 .NEF files work as you describe...

I use 10.4.2 fully curent... 8C46.
