Identify orphan images in iPhoto

A while back I shared a tip for finding orphan tracks in iTunes (i.e. those not in a playlist). Here's a tip for finding images in your iPhoto library that aren't assigned to any album.

Those of us who have a penchant for organisation bordering on the unwell are probably uncomfortable in the knowledge that not all of their images in iPhoto are duly assigned to an Album. So how can one identify these unfortunate orphans? In iPhoto 5 choose New Smart Album from the File menu and set it to "album is not any". That's it; Mac-nificently simple as always!
