bioneural.shop goes online

bioneural.shop is an online shop that offers quality royalty-free stock photographs for purchase and immediate download. Whether you are designing a website, creating a presentation, or publishing a magazine, bioneural.shop keeps it simple: one size; one format; and a one-off competitive price.

Notice 05.03.05: It came... and went. Effective today bioneural.shop in the form described above is offline. iBlog was not as well suited to maintaining a catalogue of images for sale as I first thought. I now have a portfolio on iStockphoto.

I guess it was bound to happen at some point—crossing the line from "just a hobby" to "let's see if I can make a little money". Recently I've had a few requests to use this photo or that photo (free of charge) from both commercial and non-commercial concerns. Typically these requests have come via my portfolio on the TrekEarth website. My brother, a graphic designer, has also bemoaned the lack of good-quality stock photographic images. And I spoke with someone who had setup an e-commerce site selling cosmetics. It sounded like a challenge, a learning opportunity, and perhaps—just perhaps—I might actually sell something.

bioneural.shop went "live" on 23.07.04, initially offering just 3 images for sale to enable me to put the concept and technology to test. I decided to get into advertising partnerships with Amazon.co.uk, Google, and Apple Store UK—again, more to explore how this works rather than with the aim of getting rich.

Besides, if I want to purchase something from Amazon.co.uk or the Apple Store, I can enter the store via the ads on my own site and earn commission on my own purchases! As for enabling transactions for my own shop, there were several alternatives. Having already tried accepting payments with PayPal via eBay, I decided to go with them. This means bioneural.shop can accept payments made with major debit and credit cards, and in major currencies (e.g. £, US$, €).

Your feedback on the shop design or features is most welcome—but don't write to say "there aren't many photos"! I know that, and this will change.

Update 26.07.04: I notice that the "Ad Blocking" feature of Norton Internet Security stops some of the adverts from being displayed. You may need to disable this "feature" if pages on bioneural.net do not display as you expect.
