Pairing a Palm m505 with a Siemens S25

How to set up a Palm m505 handheld (OS 4.0) for infrared communications with a Siemens S25 GSM phone...

First set up the Palm (OS 4.0) to recognise the S25's modem via infrared...

Connection settings

  1. Open the Palm Preferences application and use the pull-down menu to select the Connection panel;
  2. Click the New button and rename the configuration to S25;
  3. From the Connection Method pull-down menu, choose IrCOMM to Modem;
  4. Click the Details button and set Speed to 57,600 bps, Flow Ctl to Automatic, and type in AT&FX4 as the Int String.
  5. Click OK

Network settings

  1. From within the Preferences application use the pull-down menu to select the Network panel;
  2. Next to Service , type the name of your ISP (e.g. Freeserve);
  3. Next to User Name , type your login user name;
  4. Assign a Password if you wish to store one;
  5. From the Connection pull-down menu, choose S25;
  6. At Phone , enter the phone number you use to access your ISP;
  7. Click the Details button and select PPP from the Connection type pull-down menu. Leave Query DNS and IP Address checked;
  8. Click OK.

Then set up the S25 for IrDA...

S25

  1. Turn the S25 on;
  2. Press the Menu button, scroll up twice to Setup and Select ; scroll down once to FAX/Data Mode and Select ;Select again to change IrDA on/off;
  3. Alternatively, use this keypad shortcut: Menu-9-2;
  4. Once IrDA is activated the screen should display the IrDA symbol.
